  4. ROSES.SCR       Random display of Polar Roses - for MS Windows V3.1.
  5.  
  6. A $5 Shareware registration fee is required.

  10. 1.0 INSTALLATION
  11. From a DOS prompt, copy this saver file to your windows directory.
  12.  (e.g. COPY A:\ROSES.SCR C:\WINDOWS\ROSES.SCR).

  15. 2.0 USAGE
  16. To try out the saver, start the control panel (CONTROL.EXE) and double
  17. click on the "DeskTop" icon.  Use the combo-box in the screen saver
  18. group to select Roses.  Press the "Test" Button to try out the saver.  
  19.  
  20. Use the "Setup" Button to play with some of the options available with
  21. this saver.  This saver supports password protection.  
  22.  
  23. Time interval:  specifies the number of seconds that a Rose will be
  24.                 displayed on the screen before a new randomly generated
  25.                 Rose will start to be drawn.
  26.  
  27. Columns:        specifies the number of Roses that will be drawn
  28.                 horizontally across the screen.
  29.  
  30. Rows:           specifies the number of Roses the will be drawn
  31.                 vertically down the screen.
  32.  
  33. Seed 1:         determines the number of leaves that a Rose will have.
  34. and             
  35. Seed 2:

  37. Random Colors:  The brightness of the randomly generated colors on some
  38.                 monitors is too low.  Initial default is ON.  When
  39.                 Random Colors is not checked ON, seven colors will be
  40.                 used sesuentally.

  42. Random Roses:   When Random Roses is not checked ON, the seed values
  43.                 will be incrimented from 1 to 300 sequently.  Seed 1 
  44.                 will be incremented first.
  45.  
  46. Screen savers usually do not involve interaction on the part of the user.
  47. It is for that reason that Roses are generated in a random manner with
  48. this screen saver.  However, it is possible to experiment with the
  49. generation of specific Roses:
  50.   
  51.     1) Specify Time interval of say 6 seconds.  
  52.     2) Specify Column value of 1 and a Row value of 1
  53.     3) Specify a Seed 1 value of 14 and a Seed 2 value of 41.
  54.     4) Select the "OK" Button in the Setup Dialog box and the "Test"
  55.        Button in the Desktop dialog box.
  56.  
  57. A specific Rose will appear before a second Rose will appear on top
  58. of it.  Try additional combinations of seed values.  My favorite is 
  59. Seed1: 144 and Seed2: 1, which puts the appearance of leaves behind
  60. a Rose.

  62. Another set of choices will produce a stunning sequence of Roses when
  63. the Random Roses check box is not checked ON and a Time interval of 0
  64. is specified.  See the Dialog Box choices in ROSES.WRI and try it.
  65.  
  66. As the seed values get larger, it takes longer to draw the Roses.
  67. As a result it will take a second or two to stop the screen saver.

  69. Here is a special note about Time interval: 0.  A value of 0 will hog
  70. the CPU and and cause other background programs to run slower.  This
  71. occures only when the Roses Screen Saver is active.

  75. 3.0 DISTRIBUTION
  76. Please feel free to try this saver out for a week.  If you keep it on
  77. your system after that, please send a check for $5.00 as a shareware
